FAQ
Q NPN or PNP output?
A
NPN: switches low (load common 24 V); PNP: switches high (load common 0 V, European standard). Siemens and Beckhoff input cards mostly PNP; Japan/Korea often NPN.
Q Sn sensing distance?
A
Sn is nominal switching distance; safe installation distance Sn × 0.8. Non-standard targets (aluminum, copper) need correction factors (aluminum 0.4, copper 0.3). Pepperl+Fuchs N-series (factor 1) requires no correction across metals.
Q ATEX Ex protection?
A
ATEX Zone 1/2 uses NAMUR 2-wire + isolator (Pepperl+Fuchs IS series); intrinsic safety Ex ia / Ex ib via current/voltage limiting in the isolator.
