K: -200 to +1300°C, wide range, cheap, fast (0.5-1 s), accuracy ± 2°C. Pt100: -200 to +850°C, ± 0.3°C, more stable, costlier. High temperature (> 850°C) → K; precision < 850°C → Pt100.

Modern controllers (Omron E5CD, Eurotherm 3500) support 1-key auto-tune — step response computes P/I/D. Manual via Ziegler-Nichols: set P, add I against steady-state error, finish with D against overshoot.
