Metalworking covers machining (turning, milling, grinding, drilling, boring), forming (stamping, bending, drawing, rolling), specialty (laser cutting, waterjet, EDM), heat treatment (annealing, hardening, carburizing, nitriding) and surface (plating, coating, anodizing). Trumpf (laser/sheet), Bystronic, Salvagnini, Schuler (stamping), DMG MORI and Mazak lead Europe.

FAQ
Q Laser vs waterjet cutting?
Laser: thin sheet (< 25 mm) fast and precise (± 0.05 mm), but slow on thick and HAZ. Waterjet: any thickness (including 200 mm titanium, composites), no HAZ, quiet, but slow (1/5 of laser) and abrasive cost.
Q 5-axis vs 3-axis?
5-axis: complex freeform (blades, dies, medical) in one setup, ± 5 μm. 3-axis: multiple setups, cumulative error. Aero-engine blades and tooling are almost entirely 5-axis.
Q Steel heat treatment?
Quench-and-temper: balanced mechanics. Carburizing: hard surface, tough core (HRC 60+ surface, HRC 30 core). Nitriding: low distortion, high wear resistance. Aichelin, Ipsen and SECO/WARWICK lead European heat-treatment furnaces.
